The first "Pearl of the Web" for www.swissbiomat.ch is without any doubt www.biomat.net.
This site, created in 1998 as The "Biomaterials Resources on the Internet WebPage" by a group from the University of Porto (Portugal), and in particularly from the INEB - Instituto de Engenharia Biomedica. It has later become the Biomaterials Network in February 2000. Its goal is to be

"an interactive source of information, where users can actively participate and communicate with each other. Biomat.net is aimed at linking the biomaterials community worldwide. Membership to Biomat.net is free, and members can browse all od Biomat.net without charge".

It is a certainly the most efficient site dedicated totally to biomaterials, providing a huge amount of information, very professionally selected, and presented in a series of well organized categories.

The numerous team caring for the ever growing site (see column on right) is carefully selecting news and information from all sorts of sources, including scientific literature and web-only sources. Updates are made every month, with a practical cumulation of the previous data to create an impressive repository of documents.

Homepage of Biomat.net
A very attractive home page focuses on the four highlights of the monthly issue, while the right of the top banner is used to promote a main biomaterials event, like in this issue a reminder of the 6th year of the site www.biomat.net.

An impressive list of new meetings is proposed on the right, each reference giving direct access to the site of the mentioned meeting.

The various sections of the site are easily reachable from the main list, which hides nicely an unsuspected amount of information in each category.
